As per the Media Reports, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has given its approval to a scheme that will now allow students to pursue two educational degrees simultaneously as per students academic interest, which means that if a student of particular stream need to pursue a degree courses belong to Bachelor’s in science(B.Sc) or Bachelor’s in Engineering(B.E) can do this from regular college mode and the another degree in fine arts of his interest is to compulsory done by distance open learning or online mode.
In 2012, UGC had appointed a committee regarding the dual degree programmes under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor of the Hyderabad University, since then the idea not planned to conclude. But earlier this year under the chairmanship of UGC Vice Chairman Bhushan Patwardhan the commitee worked on the proposal based on feedback from the public.
The commission in its latest meeting approved simultaneous dual degrees for students in India, allowing students to complete courses in the same or different streams at the same time. Thus, UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said that rule states, that students can pursue One of the two degrees to be Opt through regular mode, and the other has to be through online or Distance & Open learning (IDOL) or YCMOU or IGNOU. The launch of the official notification which will confirm the proposal for students will be made soon.
